Each individual vid rec page has a “What I love about this vid” commentary box in the top left corner. When a reccer adds a vid they get to say what they love about the vid for others to see.
This allows the reccer to express what they love about the vid specifically and the opportunity for the original vidder to see what someone likes about their work. It's a win-win

If a YouTube or Vimeo vid is on AO3 all the Reccer has to do is add the AO3 works id to the submission form. The Vid Rec will now have a AO3 button that will redirect viewers to the vids original AO3 work's comment section to leave a comment or kudos.
Using the site will increase the likeliness of more comment unlike YouTube or Vimeo. If that video is removed so goes the comments. Yes, vids can be public. In addtion vides can be marked as members only in which case only logged in members can view the vid. Beyond that vids can be marked subcribers only in which case only subscribed members to a channel can view the vids

VidRecs.com has categories & tags. Vids can only have one category but a vid can have multiple tags. Tags can be turned into links that will group videos based on that tag. We are working on improving categories and tags for existing videos as content is added. Related vids showcase vids from the same fandom.
